Oh man, the day has come too quickly when I must say goodbye to my yoga pants and slippers, and hello to my 5:45am alarm, and actually having to remember what day it is. For some reason I always feel like Christmas break goes by so much faster than Spring Break. Anyone else with me there? I think its because of all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Buying last minute presents, trying to clean the house, catch up on laundry, and all the many social engagements that go along with the holidays!
The nice thing about going back to the kindergarten classroom is that the students have magically grown over the break. Before Christmas break, you are focusing so much on social skills, letter and sound recognition, and fine motor skills. I love coming back in January because we start hitting those beginning reading and writing skills like nobody's business! We've laid the foundation, and now its time to get to work!
Our first week back is penguin week! We will be working on penguin fiction and non-fiction texts all throughout our language arts curriculum. I'm linking up with Mrs. Wills' Kindergarten for the.....
I always think it's funny decorating the classroom and doing art projects with themes of snowy winter and arctic animals while living in San Diego, where 62 degrees is absolutely freezing!!! We are actually supposed to get a huge rain storm this week, and 4 out of the 5 days have at least an 80% chance of rain during the day. Back from Christmas Break right into rainy day schedule? Ohhhhh joooooyyyy!!!!!
To celebrate our penguin week, and to give my students a little refresher on letter sounds and blending, I created this penguin freebie that I would like to share with you! Just click on any of the pictures below, and it will take you to my TPT store where you can grab the freebie.
Hopefully it works well for you in reviewing those skills as a whole class, or individually in a literacy center. Have a wonderful week everyone!
